About Top Trumps Social Psychology

Top Trumps is known the world over for their gaming cards covering almost every topic imaginable, from Harry Potter to Planes, Trains and Automobiles - it’s the game anyone, anywhere can pick up and play.

Top Trumps: Social Psychology adopts this winning formula to create a whole new way of learning about this fascinating field of study.

Each card provides a short description of a core theory or concept along with a QR code that will link you to a more detailed description, relevant references and other resources. On each card there are indicative ratings on five categories that can be used to compare and contrast the theory or concept: Area, Publication Year, Scientific Impact, Multidisciplinary Reach, and Practical Application. As well as being the basis for playing Top Trumps, these categories  will help you understand key aspects within social psychology, and in particular how to compare and contrast the different  theories and concepts.

It's important to note the ratings are purposefully not definitive. While they may approximate a view of how different concepts and theories relate to each other, they are intended as a starting point for discussion and debate – the hallmarks of academic discourse! Download the free Lesson Plan for  ideas about different debates you can have.

About the Creator

I'm Richard Crisp, a Professor at Durham University and I have over 30 years experience teaching social psychology.

Inspired as an antidote to the ever-increasing shift to remote learning and a growing reliance on AI, I've partnered with Top Trumps to create a brand new educational tool aimed at re-engaging students and fostering face-to-face learning experiences: Top Trumps Social Psychology.

This collaboration reflects my commitment to making social psychology accessible and engaging, blending traditional academic rigour with interactive, game-based learning to enhance student engagement and understanding of complex psychological concepts.

Through this initiative, I hope to inspire the next generation of psychologists, demonstrating the enduring relevance and adaptability of social psychology in addressing contemporary social, economic and cultural challenges.
