About the categories

Why Five Categories?

The classic Top Trumps game is played with five categories on each card to allow players to choose the one they think will be best in a stand-off with other players

Why These Categories?

The categories represent key ways in which the different categories and theories can be compared. For instance, some theories have had a big impact, stimulating lots of other research and debate amongst psychological scientists, while some have  had less impact - perhaps because they are relatively new theories, or perhaps because they are older theories that have not withstood the test of time (or attempts to reproduce them)

Why These Values?

Some are factual, like the Year of publication, while others are more subjective, like Reproducibility. This is where the cards offer the chance for some really interesting discussion and debate. Do you agree with the Practical Application score (can you think of LOTS of ways to apply the theory?!). Do you agree with the Reproducibility score? (perhaps you can find studies on line that show the theory or concept is more, or less, reproducible than suggested on the cards?).
